I mean damn- that’s one rough introduction to romance. Her grief over losing Caleb and ending the relationship is heart breaking. She was a BABY, and this was her first love experience- a tragic, hopeless, impossible love story that she was trapped in. And my girl Cornelia deserved so much more. So one of them would have had to give up everything for them to be together and live fully in each other’s lives. And Cornelia’s roots are too strong for her to jump ship and live happily in Meridian. She loves toilets and indoor plumbing and movie nights and malls. Cornelia loves the fashion, the glamor, the convenience of earth. He was never going to leave Meridian for Cornelia, no matter how much he loved her.Īnd Cornelia? I’m sure she would visit Elyon all the time, but you know her heart is on earth. He is and always will be a member of Elyon’s court he was born for that purpose as a murmurer, but now he gets to serve a true and just leader. Caleb was never going to move to earth and become a real estate agent or some nonsense. But it is even more abundantly obvious that comic Caleb would not have fit in at Earth. Comic Caleb is infinitely kinder and softer than animated Caleb, without losing any of his tenacity or courage. There will always be sacrifice and tears, with small, scant bits of happiness.Ĭaleb is in love with Meridian- that much is true of both comic and animated versions of Caleb. Yes, their love was real and fierce and alive, but no happy ending awaits them, anon. The universe is against their love, and they fight it desperately for a while… but here’s the reason why they could never be my otp: Cornelia and Caleb were not happy. But… their love is totally written as a tragedy. So the writers did a fantastic job of conveying the depths of their feelings- it’s not like Romeo and Juliett, where it was just lust. The earth guardian destined to protect the universe and a flower-turned-man, born as a servant to the reincarnate of evil? Destiny. They found each other through their dreams after all- they literally knew each other before they’d ever met. But unlike Romeo and Juliett, I actually believe Cornelia and Caleb loved each other fiercely and beyond reason, that they had a soul deep connection that transcended earth and meridian. So Caleb and Cornelia are pretty much the definition of the star-crossed lovers trope… practically reincarnations of Romeo and Juliett. Stop reading if you don’t, because I’ve got a lot of thoughts and feelings on this! I’m assuming you haven’t read the comics… which I would recommend if you don’t want to be spoiled.
